Ideology basically means a set of ideas, values and beliefs of a particular group.
Ideologies are common in religion and society, as Britain used to be a predominately christian/catholic country and society these values have been passed down. When Henry VIII challenged the catholic church and the Pope by asking for a divorce he challenged the ideologies a competing ideology.
In today's society ideologies are always being challenged as traditions are being thrown out the door, David Cameron for example who is a conservative believes in tradition, individualism and is very religious, and yet he his pro gay marriages which in the bible is frowned upon and in the 1960's was still a crime.
A very well known ideology in Hollywood is the 'American Dream', a belief that if you work hard you will succeed, therefore it states that the rich and famous deserve there position and those that have not tried hard enough will remain poor. But what of people who are born in to money and fame, or people like Kim Kardashian who people will argue have done nothing to get rich, why should they be rich? Maybe a left wing approach, Communism where everyone is equal makes more sense.

These ideologies can be found everywhere, even our film...
The Dominant Reading : Our Film has a typical christian ideology, 'Redemption' where your sins can be forgiven.
Colossians 1:14
'in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins'
Jake is redeeming himself as he has murdered his brother, to do this he must kill everyone who ever hurt his brother. It is a personal vendetta in a way that he gets justice for his brother, if he doesnt he will feel he has failed. Jake comes from a working class background and is white, as our target audience is likely to be more working class we feel they will sympathise with him more and they will have an emotional bond with him.
(Murdering all your friends may seem a little far fetched but thats what makes this a film (and more importantly a film with a drama genre) and not a reality program)
The Oppositional Reading : Jake bullied his brother Stuart as well as his friends so why should he be redeemed and not the others. He is from a working class background, white portrayed as being chav like and is extremely violent, therefore the audience will not sympathize with him.
